About Me

Kinny Reyes Zambrano

Mechanical Engineering Student

I am a passionate Mechanical Engineering student at the Univerity of Texas, where I combine my love for design and innovation with practical engineering solutions. My academic journey has equipped me with strong technical skills and a deep understanding of mechanical systems.

Org

American Society of Mechanical Engineers

I'm part of a global engineering community dedicated to solving real-world challenges. Through ASME, I collaborate with fellow engineers, participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives, and contribute to advancing technical solutions that make a difference. This involvement has enhanced my understanding of mechanical engineering principles while connecting me with a network of professionals committed to innovation and safety in engineering.

PROJECTS

Project 1

Project PL-8 | Chassis Engineer

Led the design and iteration of CAD assemblies for a monocoque-style chassis using Autodesk Inventor, creating a street-legal car built from basalt fiber while balancing structural performance with cost constraints in a student-led team.

  • Engineered front and rear chassis beams with modular underbody supports and bolt-connected interfaces to maximize structural integrity and serviceability
  • Developed crumple-integrated windshield zone and engine access panel in coordination with the powertrain team
  • Collaborated in weekly cross-functional workdays using Autodesk Vault for design file management and team synchronization

Machine Elements RC Car Team Project | CAD Engineer

Machine Elements RC Car Team Project | CAD Engineer

Led CAD development of a functional remote-controlled vehicle using Autodesk Inventor, integrating a custom Ackermann steering system and PETG-based modular component mounts.

  • Co-developed BOMs for fabrication approval and part sourcing, navigating material tolerances to refine CAD dimensions and improve assembly fit
  • Participated in 3D printing and iterative testing, applying dimensional feedback to adjust mount clearances and improve drivetrain control

Project 3

Texas Robo Rumble | Mechanical Design Engineer

Designed a reversible aluminum and TPU chassis in Autodesk Inventor for a 3 lb. combat robot; modeled mock internal components for spatial validation and co-developed BOMs for submission and weight compliance.

  • Redesigned drivetrain and chassis layout to improve torque transfer and inverted driving resilience, contributing to a 5th place finish out of 16 teams in 2025
  • Supported final assembly and rapid prototyping using TPU wheel guards and modular armor layouts; iterated component fits under strict time and weight constraints for mid-match repairs
